Here's how I explain it. Every major AI tool is a car, and they'll all drive you from point A to point B. The large language model is the engine under the hood.
Which large language model should a business use?
I use Claude, because I trust how Anthropic handles data and documents its compliance. But the bigger difference between a good result and a bad one is your setup: what you've written down about your business and whether you've given the model your files, your process and your voice.
Why do LLMs have different versions?
Each company offers a few engines at different sizes. In Claude those are Haiku, Sonnet and Opus. Bigger engines handle harder jobs and use more tokens doing it. New versions come out every few weeks.
Do I need to understand how an LLM works?
Not to get value from one. AI is a communication skill. If you can explain a task clearly to a person, you can explain it to an LLM.
