What do healthcare practices want AI to do?
We ask everyone who joins the Tuesday masterclass what they'd hand to an AI employee. The people in healthcare, healthcare insurance and healthcare analytics who answered asked for help checking and answering email, building presentations and analysis, and producing reports and dashboards.
That lines up with the whole room. Out of 174 business owners polled across 19 industries, the top requests were email management and replies, then social content, then reporting. In a practice, nearly all of that is front office work, which is why the use cases on this page start there and stay away from clinical decisions.
Can a healthcare practice use Claude with patient information?
Only on the right plan. When someone in healthcare asked about this in the Oct 27 masterclass, Luke's answer was to move to a business plan before anything sensitive goes in, because a personal account is the wrong place for it.
Here's how it works today, according to Anthropic's help center:
- Only Claude Enterprise plans can be set up as HIPAA-ready. Free, Pro, Max and Team plans can't.
- If you process protected health information in Claude, you need that HIPAA-ready setup with a business associate agreement (BAA) in place.
- Not every feature is covered once it's on, so check Anthropic's list before you connect anything new.
Until that's in place, keep patient names, dates of birth and anything clinical out of Claude entirely. The front desk email, staff handbook and reporting jobs above all work without it.
Where should a practice start?
Start with the front desk inbox. The questions repeat, the answers are already written somewhere and your staff can tell in seconds whether a draft is right, which makes it a good first AI employee.
Then climb the four levels. Level 1 is a contractor that does a job with no context. Level 2 is trained on your policies and your voice. Level 3 is connected to your inbox and calendar. Level 4 runs on a schedule, like a report that lands every Monday before the first appointment.
If you want those built inside your practice with you, that's what the AI Operating System is for.
