What do home service owners want AI to do?
We ask every Tuesday masterclass attendee what they'd hand to an AI employee. The people in HVAC, construction and contracting who answered asked for list building, a workflow from their CRM into ClickUp, and help with scheduling, resources and spotting problems in their data. In the Oct 27 session one owner in construction just wrote "streamline my work."
Across the whole room it's similar. Out of 174 business owners polled across 19 industries, email management and replies came first, then social content, then reporting. For a home service business, email is where estimates get lost, because the request that sits until Friday often goes to whoever called back first.
How does AI help a contractor win more estimates?
It changes what the customer gets after you leave the driveway. Luke's example from the Oct 27 masterclass: you walk the property with the wife, sketch the deck and porch on a piece of paper, then send a spreadsheet. Now she has to show her husband a $30,000 number with a napkin drawing next to it.
The Tidewater proposal page showed the homeowners their own house with the new porch on it. They could make the deck bigger, switch to composite decking, add a black railing, a paver path or string lights, and see it from the chair, from above, at 8 AM and at 8 PM. It quoted what they said on the walk-through back to them: a seat for everyone, a place for the grill, done by Thanksgiving. Then they picked one of the three tiers themselves, so there was no second proposal to write.
That page closes a lot better than the spreadsheet, and it was built from files the company already had.
Where should a home service business start?
Start by putting your pricing book, materials list and two or three past proposals into one Claude Project. That's the training. Once it knows how you price a job, the proposal writer and the follow-up emails both get better, which makes it a good first AI employee.
Then add the connections and the schedule: your inbox and calendar for estimate replies, your CRM for follow-up, and a Monday run that lists the quotes still open. If you want that set up inside your business with you, that's what the AI Operating System is for.
